How big is the band?
Matthew Friedman & Stiletto can be booked for weddings and special events in configurations ranging from six to 12 pieces. The versatility of our musicians allows us to create a soundscape that far exceeds the number of people on the bandstand.
Smaller groups (solo through quartet) are also available. And please inquire about our Dueling Pianos option! An all-request evening of interactive entertainment, that will make your party stand out in the best possible way…
Do you provide music for ceremony and cocktail hour?
Yes. We can either use musicians from within the band to handle these elements of your event, or you can contract for additional specialists (i.e. strings, flute, harp, etc.).
Will you learn new songs?
Of course! We consult with our clients extensively, working together to construct a set of music unique to their event. Nothing is off limits, and our repertoire simply cannot be contained within a typical wedding band song list.
Do you use pre-recorded music or backing tracks?
No and no. After all, you are hiring a live band… not a DJ and not a computer programmer. There will be musicians on the bandstand for every moment of your party. No mp3’s or Spotify playlists will be used (except if specifically requested by the client). And every note you hear will be performed by the musicians themselves- never “piped in”. It is our experience that bands using pre-recorded backing tracks to “thicken up” their sound are either taking the lazy way out, or are lacking in requisite musicianship. That’s not our style.
Do you travel?
YES. We are based in New York City, but our operational range is the entire Eastern Seaboard. And of course, if logistics and budget permit, we’ll go anywhere we’re wanted… Have music, will travel!
Do you carry insurance?
YES. We have a comprehensive $2M General Liability Policy, and can include the venue in an event-specific certificate.
Do you provide your own sound system?
YES. Stiletto uses the highest-quality sound system, and there will be audio technicians on hand to make sure that volume and mix are always appropriate. Beware of bands or agencies that do not offer dedicated sound techs- if the musicians also have to run their own sound, then they are by definition not paying full attention to the music or the run-of-show.
